The Bahama Islands prior to 1973 was a Crown Colony .
Because of the number of shipwrecks England decided to build lightstations to improve navigation.
In 1836 the first two major lighthouses were built in the Bahamas, one on the southern tip of Great Abaco Island at Hole-in-the-Wall and the other at Gun Cay just south of Bimini.
Richard T. Thompson my great grandfather, Theophilus R. Thompson my grand uncle and James A Thompson my grandfather were Lighthouse Keepers employed by the British Imperial Lighthouse Service, Trinity House,were sent to the Bahamas in 1859 .They were keepers through out the Bahamas
They were born in Oban Scotland.
My Father Samuel Godfrey Thompson son of James Thompson was born at the Great Isaac Cay Lighthouse in 1912.
